On Thursday, September 22, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Kaiser Family Foundation will hold a briefing examining the drivers behind the rapid rise of health insurance premiums and how the health reform law may address them. Panelists, including NovaRest founder Donna Novak, will discuss the different ways in which states are assessing premium increases and how insurers and consumers will be affected by these efforts.
The Affordable Care Act creates a process for states and the Department of Health and Human Services to review “unreasonable” premium increases and provide information to consumers about the process. The rules governing this rate review process went into effect September 1. The briefing will address how these new rules work and what the implications may be for the growth in health insurance premiums and the underlying cost of health care. Panelists will take questions from the audience.
